Our Standards of Training: Ensuring Quality and Authentic Practice

Our Standards of Training serve as a benchmark for all members, practitioners and teachers affiliated with our Association ensuring quality and consistency among our members.

General Standards for Reiki Training

All Reiki training must adhere to the Standards of Training set by the Reiki Association of Western Australia.
Applicants are required to be initiated in person by a qualified Reiki Master. Online training courses do not meet the Association’s approved methods of instruction.
Each applicant must submit a copy of their Reiki level certificate(s), issued by their Reiki Teacher, as part of the application process.
A copy of the applicant’s Reiki lineage must be included in the application materials.
Applicants must agree to comply with the National Code of Conduct for Health Care Workers.
Applicants must also agree to abide by the Reiki Association of Western Australia’s Code of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Reiki 1 Class Requirements

The Reiki 1 class must extend over at least two days, but not exceed four consecutive days, to ensure dedicated teaching time.
The class must include the appropriate initiations or attunements.
Instruction should cover the history, lineage, and precepts of Reiki.
Sufficient time must be provided for participants to practice Reiki on themselves and others.
The class should introduce participants to the practitioners’ Code of Ethics and Code of Practice.

Reiki 2 Class Requirements

The Reiki 2 class must extend over one and a half days or not less than eight hours, ensuring dedicated teaching time.
Appropriate initiations or attunements are required as part of the class.
The training must teach three symbols and their applications.
Ample practice time must be provided for participants to apply what they have learned.
Reiki 2 training is only offered after the applicant has completed at least six months of practice and/or a minimum of thirty logged hours of Reiki treatments.

Teacher Training Requirements

Teacher training must be conducted as an apprenticeship lasting at least one year.
Apprentices must participate in multiple Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 classes during their training period.
Teacher training is based on a clear contract or agreement, which includes a provision that prohibits the new teacher from training another teacher for a minimum of three years.
The teacher training program is only available to those who have a minimum of three years of Reiki 2 practice experience.

Code of Ethics

Reiki Association Practitioners will:

Work with integrity, impartiality and respect for all individuals
Maintain ethical and non-exploitive client relationships
Observe the highest standards of Reiki practice
Provide appropriate client support and confidentiality

Code of Practice

Reiki Association Practitioners will:

Conduct themselves in accordance with the Reiki Association’ Code of Ethics
Follow the Usui System of Reiki Healing
Will not incorporate any other modalities into their Reiki treatment unless contracted by the client to do so
Respect and Honour all clients with equality and without discrimination
Provide a safe, nurturing treatment area
Follow required protocols when providing treatments in other institutions
Have appropriate Insurance cover
Never exploit clients financially, sexually, emotionally or otherwise
Provide new clients with a general introduction to Reiki practice, and briefly describe the treatment process
Maintain, and keep secure, clear factual records of treatments, and any given advice
Maintain client confidentiality; except as required by law
Never diagnose, prescribe nor promise cure
Refer clients to other health practitioners when appropriate
Not denigrate other Reiki Practitioners, nor other health workers, nor other modalities
Continue their personal Reiki practice
Undertake appropriate Professional Development
Refer member disputes to the Reiki Association for mediation
