Reiki Association of Western Australia

About Us

Our History: Connecting Practice with Community

The Reiki Association WA (RAWA) was formed by Roger Weston, Keitha Bradley, Deon Way and Shirley Jukic out of a desire to create an association which could support practitioners in their personal and public practice, and promote a credible and respectable organisation to the healthcare industry and general public.

Sherryl McCollin was the original secretary and became the first Life Member. The other founders were also later awarded with life membership.

RAWA was formally incorporated in mid-2005

Who We Are

The Reiki Association of Western Australia is a not-for-profit incorporated association, operated by its members for the benefit of the community. The organisation is managed entirely by volunteers, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment among those involved.

We serve as a welcoming and inclusive community for a diverse group of individuals, including Professional Reiki Practitioners, Reiki Teachers, as well as both public and private practitioners. By providing this network, the Association aims to connect individuals who share a commitment to Reiki practice and holistic living.

The Association partners with mainstream health care providers to make Reiki treatments accessible to clients and their families. Through these collaborations, we help integrate Reiki healing into broader health and wellness practices, supporting the wellbeing of the wider community.

 Preserving the Original Teachings

Reiki is a simple, non-invasive Japanese healing technique founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Our practice at RAWA is rooted in respect for his original teachings, known as Usui Shiki Ryoho and Jikiden Reiki. Usui Sensei developed this systematic method after a period of intense study and spiritual seeking, ultimately discovering a way to channel Rei (Universal) and Ki (Life Force Energy) for the benefit of all.

His aim was  a practical, accessible method for personal growth and physical well-being that anyone could learn and use. This dedication to practical application and clear structure is what defines authentic Reiki lineage and is the foundation of every treatment we offer.

From Practice to Public Service: The Great Kanto Earthquake

While Usui Sensei began teaching his system privately, the devastating Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 rapidly propelled Reiki into the public eye.

In the face of catastrophic destruction, injury, and immense psychological trauma across Tokyo, Usui Sensei and his students worked tirelessly. They established clinics and provided immediate, practical support to countless victims. This mass relief effort demonstrated the incredible utility and accessibility of Reiki during a time of extreme need. It cemented Reiki’s reputation not just as a tool for personal healing, but as a powerful method for compassionate community service. This foundational act of giving remains central to the philosophy of RAWA, providing supportive, effective care when it is needed most.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote, educate, inspire, and empower people to lead holistic lives through the application of the Usui system of Reiki healing.

As a West Australian Association of Reiki Practitioners, we are dedicated to advancing these values and fostering a deeper understanding of Reiki’s benefits within our community.

Our Commitment to Excellence: RAWA Practitioner Standards

At the Reiki Association of Western Australia (RAWA), our Practitioner Standards of Training are the foundation of trust and professional practice. They embody our commitment to authentic lineage and ethical service, ensuring that every member upholding these standards delivers the highest quality of care. By clearly defining the expected conduct and training, these guidelines are vital for protecting the public and maintaining the integrity of Reiki as a respected modality. They shape our professional relationship with other health providers, demonstrating our adherence to accountability, clear boundaries, and collaborative wellness practices, allowing us to serve as a trustworthy referral source within the wider healthcare community.
